About Thorne Security
Andrew joined the family business after leaving school in June 1979. He initially started at the bottom but quickly established himself by getting involved in the design and installation of security systems on a contract that Thorne developed with Texaco PLC. The contract ran for over 30 years and Andrew was instrumental in expanding Thornes service for the supply and installation of all physical security systems nationally to Texaco sites.
In 1984, Andrew further enhanced his skills and became the Procurement Manager for a contract to supply and install security equiptment to National Westminster Bank PLC, for use in their strong rooms throughout the country. Over a five year period Andrew procured and distributed equiptment for installation in the strong rooms ad reported directly to the Nat West board of Directors on a quarterly basis. During this busy period, in 1987 Andrew demonstrated his versatility by undertaking a dual role as Contracts Manager for the provision and supply of security equiptment to Whitbread PLC, this included their Threshers Wine stores and Beefeater restaurants. He had overall responsibility for the contract including design and installation and once again reported directly to the Whitbread board of Directors on progress.
Providing himself within the company, Andrew was promoted to Senior Contract Director in 1999 and took over a contract for the design, procurement and installation of security products to Tesco PLC vast estate.
In addition to Andrews security work his entrepreneurial acumen had always been at the forefront of his thirst for new business. Since joining the family business he has been heavily involved in purchase of land, warehouse retail shops, leisure industries and the development of Thorne Holdings portfolio. Through this work and our Spanish company we saw an opportunity to branch into the military sector, in supplying military equipment and maintenance, a venture which is gaining momentum in Europe and the Middle East. In addition we are also working up a joint venture with a Dutch company for the provision of renewable energy to a specialist market.
As a company Thorne Security is always looking to diversify and develop new business opportunities. Andrew was appointed Managing Director in March 2017 and is at the helm of an organisation, which is rapidly growing its capability in a number of business areas. With that in mind Andrew has formed a specialised team made up of ex-military Charted Engineers with over 90 years operational experience in the military market. The team had a huge skill set with abundant knowledge and experience in Business Development, Procurement, Integrated Logistic Support, Electro/Mechanical Engineering and Communication Systems. They have already made a huge impact with the work undertaken over the past few months and are continuing to develop new business in the thriving military market. At Thorne Security we are committed to giving the best possible advice and providing the best possible solutions in the best possible time.
